The third dimension

Ok, this is about 3D display technology, yes the same old thing which has been around for more than 150 years now. I am very bullish about this tech and feel that 3D will be the standard sooner rather than later. In fact, very much sooner than most people imagine. Avatar should be the watershed here. It is the current all-time highest grosser, was followed quickly by "Alice in Wonderland". The 2010 US Masters Golf and football world guys were not to be left behind, both promise a 3D broadcast (ESPN for football and Comcast for golf). Its mainstream baby.
So, where does this all lead to? Here. Yeah, Panasonic is already out of 3D sets to sell in the US. (On a sidenote, 10% official unemployment, credit card defaults at new highs, and 3D televisions sold out within a week!! Wow, lead on baby)
With sports and movies driving the demand, 3D should break the volume barrier easily. And that is really the key. At around 2-3k USD for mid-level sets, the prices are at the same level as high-end regular LCD/Plasma sets a year or so back. This is really big, because this is not simply a bigger size or better resolution, this is a brand new technology. And it is in the same price range as a regular flat screen was some time ago!
